Since 2020, the Russian Federation has been progressively implementing a mandatory electronic product labeling system.
This initiative, operated under the “Chестnyy ZNAK” (Chestnyy ZNAK, officially rendered in English as “Honest SIGN”) framework, mandates that designated categories of goods be affixed with unique digital identifiers. These identifiers facilitate comprehensive, end-to-end traceability across the entire supply chain—from manufacturing and distribution to retail sale.
As of the latest regulatory updates, the system encompasses a wide range of products, including tobacco goods, select pharmaceuticals, footwear, apparel, cameras, tires, and perfumery, all of which are required to bear compliant electronic labels. In accordance with the government’s official roadmap, the scope of the labeling requirement is scheduled to expand in the near term to include additional categories such as bicycles, household chemicals, piping systems, and industrial cables.
